Paul Novotny and Robi Botos were introduced in 1999 through a letter writing campaign intending to persuade the department of Canadian immigration to accept the Botos family (Romani) as Canadian citizens, based on cultural merit. Paul was attuned to the difficulties facing the Botos family, since his own family settled in Canada after fleeing a hostile regime in Prague CZ., in the late 40’s. Look Ahead is their sublime and majestic first recording.
Robi has performed with Branford Marsalis, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau and opened for Wayne Shorter. He continues to perform in commemoration of Oscar Peterson and his own recording Moving Forward is a Juno winner. Together, Robi and Paul completed music for the Canadian feature film, Jean of The Jonses (TIFF) and Robi’s song Budapest, (from Look Ahead) has been licensed for use in the film Mishka.

Juno Nominations, their continued concertizing of Sealy’s Africville Suite, (1997 Juno win, produced by Novotny) provide an ongoing contribution to Canadian black culture.
